Horse Riding Spurs and Straps
Spurs go on the end of the heel and are designed to provide the rider with another form of communication with their horse. They are designed to make the horse move forward. However, in dressage, they are often used to give subtle clues that are nearly imperceptible to the eye. Straps attach the spur to the rider’s boot and keep them snug and secure while riding.
Spurs and straps have two different styles: English and Western. Most English spurs don’t have the elaborate rowel of western spurs, and instead, have nubs at the ends. They can be made of polished steel or hardened plastic. English Spurs and straps are typically less decorated than their Western counterparts. In the English disciplines, riders are going for a sleek, elegant look. Western Spurs and straps are often a little more elaborate in their design and can come adorned with rhinestones and detailed stitch work.
One Stop Equine Shop carries a variety of spurs and straps in both English and Western styles. We offer sizes for men, women, and children as well! Check out our inventory today!
